THE AMERICAN CRISIS is published online by THE FOUNDATION OF AMERICAN IDEALS, INC., an institution dedicated to promoting understanding and appreciation of the American past and the ideals of independence, liberty, equality, natural and civil rights, and responsible citizenship that constitute the foundations of American national identity.
These ideals are legacies of the American Revolution and the common inheritance of all Americans. The foundation works to ensure that these ideals are reflected in public policy, taught in our schools, and honored in the daily life of the American people. The foundation also advocates the conservation of the rich cultural and natural resources of the United States.
Jack Warren is editor-in-chief of The American Crisis. An historian of the American Revolution and American public life, he has served as an editor of The Papers of George Washington and was the founding director of the American Revolution Institute of the Society of the Cincinnati. He has published scores of scholarly and popular articles in print and online journals and lectures widely on the American Revolution and its legacy. His most recent book, Freedom: The Enduring Importance of the American Revolution, was published on October 3. Here he shares our message about understanding our shared past and the ideals that define our nation with a group of honor students drawn from all fifty states. (Courtesy U.S. Senate Youth Program)
